Wrong ‘medical diagnosis’ by Kekirawa school principal – SLHRC steps in

The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission has launched special investigations into the case where a student from the Kekirawa Educational Zone was denied from receiving school education.
According to its Commissioner, President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris,
the investigation will be carried out by the Human Rights Office of the Anuradhapura Zone.

The said student was expelled from school by its principal on suspicion of being pregnant, following which, the parents of the student, admitted her to the Dambulla General Hospital where the child underwent medical examinations.

Following the medical examinations, Hospital Superintendent of the Dambulla General Hospital, Dr. Gamini Senanayake confirmed that her pregnancy test is negative.

Accordingly, the Commissioner of the The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris said that legal action in this regard will be taken during the course of the coming weeks, following the conclusion of investigations.
