Probe on into ‘Saree fall’ harassment

The National Child Protection Authority is investigating a complaint of harassment of 250 schoolchildren by using them to hold a three km long Saree fall of the bride during a wedding ceremony at Gannoruwa in Kandy.

In a statement, the NCPA said it would first be looked into if this
had violated criminal law.

A team led by the ASP Meryl Ranjan of the Authority’s special investigating unit is conducting the investigation.

The team will gather details such as the total number of schoolchildren involved, if their class teachers and parents were in attendance, if a custodian was in charge of them, who ordered the children’s participation, duration of the ceremony, if the children were given food and if any child fell sick.
