Discussion on uplifting cricket at school level (pictures)

All possible steps will be taken and implemented at school level in an unbiased manner to uplift cricket in Sri Lanka, says education minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

He was speaking at a meeting he hosted yesterday (12) with veteran cricketers including Mahela Jayawardena and Sidat Wettimuny, and
school cricket officials aimed at changing the country’s cricketing fortunes.

The school cricket association to be represented by two members at the selection committee for the under 19 team, high-tech training centres to be set up at the provinces, granting a Rs. 2,500 monthly allowance to members of the schoolboys pool and uplifting the discipline of coaches and cricketers at school level came under discussion.

An advisory committee has been appointed to formulate a report on uplifting school cricket, and its members include Jayawardena, Wettimuny, Roger Wijesuriya, Jayantha Seneviratne and Carlton Bernadus.

Minister Kariyawasam said the recommendations of this committee would be implemented.
